PRESS RELEASE - 32-year-old moving company expands to Tacoma

32-year-old moving company expands to Tacoma

Starving Students, the nation’s leading local moving company, was proud to open its newest branch in Tacoma this summer. This is Starving Students’ third branch in Washington, joining successful operations in Seattle and Bellevue. The company moved 3,000 families in Washington last year – you’ve probably seen its trucks with the big red heart. “Having served our customers in Washington for over 12 years, we are delighted to grow our operations into the thriving Tacoma area,” remarked Bear Barnes, CEO.

Starving Students has an interesting story behind its name. It was started in Los Angeles in 1973 by two “starving students” before their first semester of college. Founder Ethan Margalith, (still chairman of the company) dug an old Army command car out of a mud slide. He painted MOVING? CALL STARVING STUDENTS on its side and parked near a busy highway. The phone started ringing and the company has never looked back. A lot has changed since then. Starving Students has grown from one man’s vision to a company that employs over 1,000 people and moves nearly 60,000 families this year. But some things haven’t changed. The company still does business the way the founder did it in the early years, giving one family at a time a quality move at a fair price.
